p.s. this is one of the coolest websites and it is extremely clever. (also happens to be one of the most famous works of internet art).

the man in the crowd
the first time i flipped through garry winogrand's book, the man in the crowd, i was drawn to the "vintage" styles and architecture. beyond the surface, though, is an interesting juxtaposition. the photo below depicts a trio of young, stylish women--probably walking to the movies or another place of diversion. winogrand clicked his shutter at the very moment that they glance over at the hopeless, forlorn man in the wheelchair. meanwhile, a little child stares at the man, while his adult bench mates wait for the bus, too preoccupied to be concerned with anything or anybody. if winogrand had taken the photo a moment earlier or a moment later, the scene would have been lost and the composition, boring. his photos, however, are captured at the precise moment when an interaction occurs, a relationship is formed, a reaction expressed. he has brilliantly turned "street photography" into something of substance. his photographs appear accidental, as if he quickly reached for his camera and snapped. upon further analysis, his photos are clearly deliberate; they depict human nature, human tendencies, human reactions....and that is timeless.
sidenote: another thought that crossed my mind after looking through his photographs was that everyone was so skinny. they were not, however. they were just average. we live in a time where obesity is the norm and to see so many people of a healthy weight, we automatically contrast them to our generation. just a thought.

rain: a time to hydroplane on the road
only in las vegas will you see and hear so much excitement about the recent rainfall. it has been raining all week and we [las vegas locals] are overjoyed. we are used to bright blue skies and intense sunlight nearly every day--thus, a change is always welcome. i was looking through the photos on my hard drive and could not find a single photo taken in the rain (understandably since it rarely rains here). while i was in sweden a couple years ago, i came upon this sculpture and really liked it. look how green it is in sweden. i'll take some of their rain any day!

blonde ambition
i'm kind of digging this image of mary-kate.
p.s. sometimes i think it would be fun to go white-blonde like this.

so i caved in
and made a facebook fan page. i always thought that they [fan pages] were reserved for famous people, classic movies, and the like. apparently, fan pages exist for nearly everything now and i'm jumping on the bandwagon baby! but seriously, i figure it can't hurt to network and market my photography in this medium since it is completely free. it will be another small part of my business to maintain, but i think it will be fun. click here if you want to be a "fan." :)

i'm rediscovering
the genius of roald dahl. i finished charlie and the chocolate factory last week, i'm currently reading the bfg, and we'll see what i choose next. his books are so quirky, so appealing, so timeless....every page is inspiring. although writing is not my main gig, i find various artistic media inspires my photography and drawings.

a successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
when i'm photographing, i love it when my subject(s) is willing to do what i suggest. in turn, i'm always open to input from others. in my opinion, collaboration is key and some of the best photos are created in this manner. donnisha, jim, and their families were wonderful in this way, and every other way for that matter. they were open, joyous, and down to have a good time (the upcoming reception photos will verify this). stand by....
p.s. view 215 is a relatively new venue located in sw las vegas. i found many photo opportunities there and the staff were very helpful and welcoming.
