paul harvey....good day

when i was in elementary school, i remember listening to paul harvey tell my mother stories. every morning, as i would eat breakfast at the kitchen table, his voice would sound through our kitchen radio with that morning's account. every morning. just like clockwork. i never paid much attention, but i knew that i had to keep from interrupting paul harvey until i heard him say, "paul harvey....good day." then i could get my mother's attention. during his story, i had no chance.
coincidentally, i just finished one of his books this week. i understand now the interest my mother had in his true stories. they captivate, motivate, and inspire.

"My father and mother created from thin air what one day became radio and television news. So in the past year, an industry has lost its godparents and today millions have lost a friend."
-Paul Harvey Jr.

published!

a few months ago, DRAFT magazine hired me to shoot akira back, the executive chef at yellowtail sushi restaurant in the bellagio. i photographed him with the dish he created: beer-battered cod tempura with ume-stout dipping sauce. akira back was really cool and laid-back. working with great people makes any assignment that much more enjoyable. anyway, here's a scan of my two-page spread. yay!
my name is hidden somewhere in the seam :)

have a fab friday!

yesterday i was in a ghost town

i went out to nelson, nevada for a photoshoot with a few other photographers and fun times were had. believe you me. there were a million photo opportunities in this ghost town-- old cars, cool textures and colors, interesting props, a crashed plane from who knows when...the list goes on. i would love to shoot here again in the near future. it would be the perfect place for a portrait, engagement, or bridal session.
