what i've been reading as of late...

these is my words by nancy e. turner

i found a lot of similarities between this book and gone with the wind (similar writing style and plot). it's an enjoyable, emotional story about one woman's experience growing up in the west in the late 1800s. read it and weep.
black like me by john howard griffin

this book describes one man's experience of "becoming" black in the deep south, right before the civils rights movement. it is inspiring, thought-provoking, and written in first person. makes me realize how far our country has come in terms of racial tolerance.

all the dave barry you could ever want by dave barry

i remember reading his columns occasionally when i was younger. although i didn't "get" all of his quips at the time, i still thought he was funny. now that i'm an adult, i truly appreciate his humor. this book is a compilation of 4 of his best books. i found myself laughing out loud throughout the entire book. his writing appears so effortless and natural. he's a genius. can't wait to read more of his work.

and the winner is....

jessica from henderson! (i'll get in touch with you shortly)

thank you for your comments and emails.
happy mother's day!

julie and julia

a few months ago, i was joking with my sister about seeing the movie "julie and julia" in honor of her and her best friend. my sis is julia and her best friend is julie.
well, all jokes aside, i really am going to see it. meryl streep and amy adams, two of my favorite actors, are the stars in this movie. it comes out in 3 months. i really want to see it now.
go here to watch the trailer.
p.s. that little egg beater below is really cute.

one of the most talented performers in the world has died today. i saw his show several months ago and was blown away with the talent that he possessed and the love that he had for his fans. las vegas has lost a star.
